3D Printing Turnaround Comparison — Standard, Express, and Urgent Explained
How long does 3D printing take? The answer depends on which service tier you choose — and being honest about what each tier can and cannot deliver. This page lays out our three turnaround tiers, their realistic timeframes, the price impact, available materials, and the caveats that apply, so you can match your deadline to the right option without surprises.
Standard — the default, and usually the right choice
Standard service covers the vast majority of orders. A 2–5 business day lead time gives us room to review the file properly, select optimal print settings, monitor the run, and perform a quality check before the part leaves the workshop. It supports all materials we stock — from basic PLA to Nylon-CF — because there is no time pressure forcing compromises on drying, enclosure warm-up, or print speed.
Standard is also the most cost-effective tier by design. If your project has a flexible deadline, standard is almost always the right choice. The price multiplier is ×1.0 — the number you see on the estimator is what you pay, with no urgency surcharge.
Express — 24 to 48 hours
Express service targets completion within one to two business days from an approved quote. It is the right choice when you have a specific deadline — a client presentation, an event, an iteration cycle that needs to close by the end of the week — but same-day production is not required.
Express is available for PLA, PETG, ABS, ASA, and TPU. Materials that require longer setup or drying (Nylon, carbon-fibre variants) may not qualify for express, depending on queue and part complexity. Very large parts or high-volume orders may also fall outside the 24–48 hour window regardless of material. When you request an express quote, we will confirm whether your specific job fits within the timeframe before you approve anything.
The express surcharge is 25% on the base material-and-print price — not on any additional services like finishing or shipping. If the part is large and the base price is significant, the absolute cost of the surcharge can be meaningful. For small parts with low base prices, the express premium is usually a minor addition.
Urgent and same-day — the reality
Urgent service means same business day production and pickup readiness. It is reserved for genuine emergencies: a critical replacement part needed before close of business, a prop needed for a shoot the next morning, a broken jig on a production line. The ×1.6 price multiplier reflects both the queue disruption and the physical constraints of same-day production.
Same-day service is available only for pickup — not postal delivery. It is limited to materials that print reliably without extended setup: PLA, PETG, and TPU. It is also limited to parts that physically complete within a working day — a 400 gram print that takes 14 hours of machine time cannot be same-day regardless of what we charge. And critically: same-day is never guaranteed until we have reviewed your file and confirmed availability. If you contact us at 4pm for a 6pm pickup, the answer may be no. Contact us as early as possible in the day if you need same-day.
What actually controls lead time
The tier you select is a target, not an automatic guarantee. Several factors affect what we can deliver in what time:
• Part size and volume: A small 30-gram bracket can print in two hours. A large 400-gram enclosure runs overnight. Multi-part orders take longer than single prints. We assess time during quoting.
• Material: Nylon must be dried before printing (adds a few hours). ABS and ASA require enclosure pre-heating. These are minor delays in standard service but meaningful in urgent contexts.
• Queue: If the workshop is at capacity — a common situation before weekends or Spanish holidays — even express jobs may slip by a few hours. We are transparent about this when it affects your order.
• File quality: A file that needs repair before slicing adds time. Submitting a clean, validated file (see our file preparation guide) is the single most reliable way to protect your deadline.
How to specify a deadline when ordering
When you submit a quote request, include your hard deadline explicitly — not a vague 'as soon as possible.' Tell us the specific date and time you need the part ready, and whether pickup or delivery is required. We will confirm whether your timeline is achievable before you approve anything.
For urgent orders: contact us by WhatsApp as early in the day as possible. The earlier we know, the more options we have. A 9am message gives us the full working day. A 5pm message may leave insufficient machine time regardless of surcharge.
For planned express orders: request the quote at least 24 hours before your target readiness time. This gives us time to prepare the file, quote accurately, and start the run without rushing. An express service ordered at 8am for 5pm the same day is substantially more achievable than one ordered at 3pm.
| Service Tier | Typical Timeframe | Price vs Standard | Materials Available | Best For | Key Caveats |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | 2–5 business days | Base price (×1.0) | All materials (PLA, PETG, ABS, ASA, TPU, Nylon, CF variants) | Non-urgent jobs, prototypes, cost-sensitive orders | Default for all orders; most reliable for quality control |
| Express | 24–48 hours | +25% on base price | PLA, PETG, ABS, ASA, TPU | Event deadlines, client demos, time-sensitive iterations | Not available for all materials; large volumes may not qualify |
| Urgent / Same-day | Same business day (pickup) | + 60% on base price | PLA, PETG, TPU | True emergencies — broken part, last-minute prop, live demo | Subject to queue; small volumes only; never guaranteed in advance |
Timeframes are from approved quote to dispatch (shipping) or pickup readiness, in business days. Same-day is pickup only — not available for postal delivery.
