Short-Run 3D Printing Barcelona — Batch Production Without a Minimum
Short-run production sits between a one-off prototype and a full manufacturing run: you need more than one part, but not thousands. At Dimension3D we handle batches from a single unit to several hundred identical parts with the same lead time and material quality as a prototype order. €10 minimum order, no setup fee, invoice provided for business orders.
What makes short-run FDM practical
FDM is well-suited to short-run production because there is no tooling cost — the same file that prints one unit prints fifty, at a per-unit cost that scales with material and machine time rather than amortised mould cost. This means you can start a run of ten parts, validate them in use, and reorder with changed parameters without financial penalty.
The practical ceiling for a single-session batch on our Bambu Lab X2D is around 50–80 small parts per plate, depending on geometry. Larger parts or mixed-geometry batches take multiple plates and are scheduled over consecutive sessions. We quote per-unit cost by quantity tier so you can see exactly where the economics change.
Materials for production batches
For most short-run production we recommend PETG or ASA as the baseline. Both are more durable than PLA in real-world conditions, handle outdoor or near-heat environments, and are available in a range of colours. PLA is appropriate for batches with purely indoor, non-structural use. For engineering-grade batches under mechanical load or at elevated temperatures, Nylon PA12 or Nylon-CF are the correct choice.
The per-unit cost for a small batch in PLA might be €1–3 per part depending on size; PETG and ASA are 10–30% more expensive per gram. Nylon and CF variants carry a higher base price. All quotes include a clear per-unit cost breakdown by quantity tier.
From prototype to batch — same supplier
A common workflow: prototype one or two parts, validate fit and function, then order the full batch with the same file and parameters. We keep your validated print settings so reorders are handled in minutes. For recurring orders — weekly or monthly restocks — we can set up a repeat order arrangement with consistent lead times.

Batch pricing: how it works
Short-run pricing is calculated part-by-part from material weight and machine time. We do not charge a setup fee or a per-order admin fee — the €10 minimum applies once per order regardless of quantity. For batches above roughly 20 units of the same part, unit economics typically improve because packing density increases and machine time per part decreases. We always provide a tiered quote showing per-unit cost at 1, 10, 50, and 100 units so you can make an informed decision about batch size.
